Soooo.....
There we were in Aniak. We were doing some asset recovery, and finished doing our scope of work. Brian, our administrative support icon, wanted to stop by the AC store. In the villages like Aniak, there is one store that services the village. Large villages, that serve as regional hubs, often have a large store-- like an Alaska Commercial Store. In all village stores, you can buy anything essential for village life; such as a generator, shotgun, canned peas, pop tarts, wrenches, claw hammers, etc.
When Brian wanted to stop by the AC Store, we assumed there was something that we forgot in anchorage. A disposable Camera perhaps. A waterproof tarp. Some WD-40. The three of us walk into the AC Store. I go pick up some WD-40. Walter gets some Beef Jerky. We look over to see what was so important for Brian to pick up. He is testing the flex of the cheapest pole, and looking at the largest pixies. "Oh Yeh. This will work fine."
The Kuskokwim river is right on the other side of the Levy. so we hike over. and here is the story.

I couldn't believe our luck. Brian caught 4 Silver Salmon on his first 6 casts. We later found out that Brian was notorious for stashing fishing poles around Earth Stations and offices around the state. the cheap crappy pole caught a lot of fish that day. we lost all three pixies, but we got our moneys worth. Aniak seems like a much nicer place when you are having fun and catching fish. I love silvers. maybe next year they'll send us back.
